Susan K. Shorter 1948–2018 Apple Valley—Susan K. Shorter, 69, of Apple Valley, MN died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018 at N.C.Little Hospice in Edina, MN. She was born March 23, 1948 in Kenyon, MN. Her parents Virgil and Stella Shorter and her sister Sandra Ahrens preceded her in death. Susan grew up on a farm near Kenyon and loved farming with her dad. She graduated from Kenyon High School in 1966. She received her Pharmacy degree from the University of Mirinesota. Later in life, she made a career change. She received her Master's Degree in Special Education from the University of St. Thomas, MN. She enjoyed connecting with her students at Burnsville High School and later tutoring several children. Susan considered tutoring a blessing, and felt it was the greatest thing she had ever done-working with kids that struggle-and witnessing success when they thrive. She didn't think of tutoring as a job-but a passion. She was a big sports fan, enjoyed playing bridge casually, and competitively, and had many interests and hobbies. She was known as a loving, caring, compassionate, thoughtful and generous person. She loved life and brought joy to many and accepted everyone of all faiths and beliefs. She recently wrote that her life was full of blessings and she was appreciative and thankful for all, especially her friends. Memorial donations may be made to N.C. Little Hospice, 7019 Lynmar Ln, Edina, MN 55435 or Vang Lutheran Church, P.O. 117, Dennison, MN 55018. Friends of Susan wish to extend their gratitude to N.C. Little Hospice for their support in her final days. Please join us from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, at Vang Lutheran Church to celebrate the life of Susan by sharing stories, memories and laughter.
