Merlyn Ahrens
1928–2015
Princeton, Ill.—Merlyn Ahrens, age 86, passed away Wednesday afternoon April 22, 2015 at Liberty Village of Princeton. A Funeral Service for Merlyn will be on Tuesday April 28, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Princeton. Pastor Scott Schmidt will officiate. Burial will follow the luncheon at Oakwood Memorial Park, 'Shrine of Rest' Mausoleum in Ottawa, IL. The family will receive friends during a visitation Monday April 27, 2015 from 5-7 PM at Norberg Memorial Home in Princeton.
Merlyn was born on December 13, 1928, in Owatonna, MN to Fred and Ella (Jackel) Ahrens. He was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Claremont, MN in 1942. He was a graduate of Owatonna High School, class of 1949. Merlyn married Fran Vollentine on September 4, 1964 in Peru, IL. They were married for 50 years.
Merlyn served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-1953. He was an Airman First Class while stationed in North Africa. He was employed by Josten's in Owatonna, MN and Princeton, IL for 41 years. He retired in 1991 and began driving a van for Gateway Services in Princeton and then for the Senior Service Center also in Princeton. Merlyn was a Gold Coat Volunteer at Perry Memorial Hospital for many years. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, the Princeton MOOSE Lodge, and a lifetime member of the Gallery of the Ageless Achievers.
Merlyn is survived by his wife Fran, his two step-sons William (Fela) Morell, Orby Morell and a step-daughter Dorothy (the late Jerry) Cioni, and four grandchildren, Bryan (Cindy) Cioni of Florida, Lori
(Jim) Horvath of Texas, Christina (Joe) Bolelli of Spring Valley and Nancy (Scott) Kmetz of Peru. Also surviving are great- grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and one sister-in-law Lorraine Ahrens of Owatonna, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Ramah Johnson and Viola Harmening, one brother Martin Ahrens, a step-son John Morell and a step-grandson Rockey Cioni.

Raymond Jenkins
1938–2015
Dodge Center—Raymond Robert Jenkins, 76, of Dodge Center died on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna, MN.
Raymond was born on August 11, 1938, to Lester Faye and Esther Clara (Meine) Jenkins in Springfield, MN. He married Judith Meine in 1960, they had two children, and later were divorced.
Raymond farmed with his family near Comfrey where he grew up and attended school. In 1967, at the age 28 he moved his family to Claremont, where he farmed with his dad. He worked at Owatonna Concrete during the day.
Ray was a farmer all his life and took great pride in his cattle and raising his crops. He loved gardening, especially growing his muskmelons and watermelons. Ray took trips with Jeff on their Harley Davidson's and had visited 48 states. He especially enjoyed trips to Sturgis, SD. Ray enjoyed his family and seeing the great grandchildren grow.
Raymond is survived by his children, Jeffrey Jenkins, and Brenda (Todd) Wilkinson, both of Owatonna, MN; three grandchildren, Shari (Andrew) Schroer, Kyle Kruckeberg, Mitch Wilkinson; four great grandchildren, Grace Schroer, Kooper Schroer, Ella Schroer, and Lilah Kruckeberg; brother, Samuel (Joanne) Jenkins, Blooming Prairie, MN; and sisters, Pearl (Don) White, Sylvia Safer, both of Springfield, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Faith Lutheran Church, 308 2nd St. NW in Dodge Center. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church on Sunday. Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 25 South Street SW is in charge of arrangements.

Elaine Kaufman
1937–2015
Owatonna—Elaine J. Kaufman age 78, of Owatonna, MN, passed away after a brave fight with cancer Sunday, April 26, 2015. Elaine is survived by one sister, Corrine Miller of Owatonna and four children, Georgia (husband, Rick), James (wife, Traci), Steven (wife Berni) and Jearleen. Also special in her life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by friends as well. A private celebration of her life will be hosted by her family at a later date.

Doris (Larson) Kraay
1924–2015
Owatonna, Minnesota—Doris (Larson) Kraay, 90, of Owatonna, died Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Owatonna Hospital.
Doris was born November 12, 1924 in Riceland Township, Freeborn Co, Minnesota the daughter of Nels and Hannah (Peterson) Larson. She was raised in Lerdal, Minnesota and graduated from Alden High School. She was united in marriage to Jochem "J.C." Kraay on May 22, 1943 in Clarks Grove. J.C. served in the armed forces and after his service began farming near Hollandale. In 1956, he began farming with his brothers and formed Kraay Bros. Vegetable Farm in Owatonna. The couple moved to Owatonna in 1961. In 1976, J.C. joined his son David in Tonna Heating and Cooling and Doris worked in the office. The couple made their home in Green Valley, AZ and would summer in Owatonna. They moved back to Owatonna in 2007. J.C. died in 2009.
She is survived by two sons, David (and Leigh Ann) Kraay of Owatonna, Tim Kraay of Loveland, CO; daughter, Debbie (and Kevin) Grose of Owatonna; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. (2009); two sons, Ronald Kraay; Michael Kraay; two daughters, Barbara Kraay and Joan Marie Kraay; a great grandson, Aaron Kraay; her parents; and her siblings, Annie; Emma; Vanda; Ella; Vivian; Ray and Gilbert.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend Cindy Halvorson officiating. Interment will be in the Clarks Grove Baptist Cemetery.

Kay Frances Kummeth
1936–2015
Manitowoc, WI —Kay Frances (Gilbertson) Kummeth peacefully passed on April 17, 2015 at the age of 78.
She was born December 30, 1936 in Wells, MN to Herbert and Edna (Schultz) Gilbertson. Kay was the devoted and loving wife of the late Eugene Paul Kummeth. Beloved mother of Douglas (Janet) Kummeth of Midland, MI, George Kummeth of Denver, CO, Barbara Kummeth of Lakewood, CO and Robert (Heather) of Anthem, AZ. Proud grandmother of Katherine, Steven, Nathaniel and Madeline Kummeth. Further survived by sister-in-laws Irene Wierzbinski, Marge Besonen, Marie (Len) Csiszar, Evelyn Sefton, Elizabeth Kummeth, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Kay took great pride in the service of both her husband and son to the U.S Marine Corps and always had high praise to the men and women who served our country. Kay was an avid reader who could often be found with a book in her hand. She also loved sewing, quilting and playing the piano. Kay was a passionate sports fan who adored her Minnesota Twins, Vikings, and Golden Gophers. Kay enjoyed her travels with friends and treasured her visits with family.
Friends may greet the family from 5-7pm Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Brick- Meger Funeral Home, 1603 Austin Rd., and one hour prior to the funeral liturgy at church. Cathie A. McCarthy
1953–2015
Crawfordville, Fla.—Cathie A. McCarthy, age 61, of Crawfordville, Florida, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 8, 2015.
She was born on Sept. 11, 1953, in Owatonna, the daughter of Eddie and Mag McCarthy.
She attended St. Mary's Elementary and Marion High School, graduating in 1971, She liked to travel and met her husband, Jack, in North Dakota, where he was working as an electrical lineman. They lived in California for a few years and settled in Florida where Crawfordville was called their home.
Cathie was a loving and caring daughter, sister, auntie and great-auntie and also an avid Vikings fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and brothers Larry and Dennis McCarthy.
Cathie is survived by two sisters, Jan (Russ) Bowar of Owatonna and Carol Huntoon of Excelsior, Minnesota; four brothers, Jack (Judy) McCarthy of Cook, Minnesota, Pat (Shirley) McCarthy of Meriden, Minnesota, Dan (and fiancé Dianne) McCarthy of Owatonna, and Phil (Tracy) McCarthy of Aurora, Illinois. Also special in her life was sister-in-law Karen McCarthy of Lakeville, Minnesota, many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
A celebration of her life will be hosted by her family at a later date this summer.

Douglas A. 'Doug' Nelson
1944–2015
North Mankato—Douglas Allen Nelson was born on January 1, 1944 in Graceville, Minnesota. Doug died April 25, 2015 surrounded by his family and the love of friends near and far.
A service to commemorate and honor the man we knew and loved will be on Friday, May 1st at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 30th, from 4:00 pm. to 7:00 pm. at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato and will continue one hour prior at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato, Hospice.
Doug was preceded in death by a whole host of family members who loved him and knew his worth, including his mother and father, stepfather, and two brothers.
He grew up in Sisseton, South Dakota and as a kid loved neighborhood pick-up games of baseball and playing basketball on the Sisseton High School basketball team where he was a quality point guard who led the team in assists. This trait of assisting others to rise and realize their best would continue throughout his lifetime. Doug attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota where he met his wife, Kathy. They were married for 48 years and have two grown children, Sara and Matt. Doug had a sterling work ethic and was deeply committed and proud of the time he spent working for Jostens and, most recently, Gopher Sport.
Doug loved spending time boating on the St. Croix River with his family and friends where he could appreciate the gifts of good company, sun, wind, and water.
Doug was a man who led by example and although we appreciated and loved him well, it is in his absence that we realize what a powerful impact he had on us all. He will be profoundly missed. We are better for having known him.

1925–2015
Rochester—Funeral services for Grace I. Rueb, 89, of Rochester, MN will be at 11:00 am on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 23, 2015 from 5-8 pm at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and also one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
Grace Ione Watson was born on November 25, 1925 in Rochester, MN to William and Anna (Holt) Watson. She passed away on April 20, 2015 at the Stewartville Care Center.
Grace attended Rochester Schools. She married Wilbert Rueb on April 16, 1945 in Rochester. Grace was a homemaker and worked at Waters Instrument. She enjoyed making quilts, cooking, reading and porcelain dolls. She loved her trips to different casinos and country and spiritual music. Family was very important to her and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her seven children, Robert (Linda) Rueb, David (LuAnn) Rueb, Thomas Rueb, Ardyce Klingfus, Joy (Mark) Hanson, Lori (Joe) Kern, all of Rochester and Diane Rueb of Owatonna, MN; 20 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; and one sister, Elsie (Kenneth) Weaver of Rochester, MN. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, a daughter, Vickie Rubin, a grandson, five brothers and 2 sisters.

John Sisser
1962–2015
Sachse, Texas—Sisser, John Charles, age 53, or Sachse, TX, passed away surrounded by family on April 18, 2015 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. John was born in Owatonna on January 4, 1962 to Donald and Margaret (Becker) Sisser. He attended St. Mary's School and graduated from Owatonna High School in 1980, where he excelled in football, earning Big Nine all-conference honors as a senior. After graduating from UW-Stout in 1984, John moved to Texas where he enjoyed a successful career in manufacturing management that spanned more than 30 years. John was forever proud of his Owatonna ties, returning regularly to visit family and maintaining life-long relationships with a special group of high school friends affectionately known as the State Cabin crew. He loved working with his hands, which fueled a passion for woodworking that started during his teenage years when he built his own sailboat. He became an accomplished furniture-maker, whose custom made pieces grace many homes in the Dallas area. John also loved fishing and his hand-made Four-Eyed Moron lure is legendary among friends and family. Being on the water was his idea of heaven. It's where he found peace.
John was a wonderful father who took great pride in his children: daughters Jessica and Jacqueline and son Eric. They brought him endless joy and happiness. In addition to his children and their mother Susan Smith, all of the Dallas area, John is survived brothers Frank (Jennifer) of Chanhassen and Dave (Laura) of Spicer; sisters Mary Jo (Craig) Zimmermann of Waconia, Ann Gerbi of Little Falls and Lisa (Chris) Vosbeek of Arden Hills, nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Cathy.

Priscilla Stewart
1930–2015
Owatonna, Minnesota—Priscilla Mary Stewart, 85, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at her daughter's home in Spirit Lake, IA under the care of hospice and with her family at her side.
Priscilla was born February 3, 1930 in Bismarck, North Dakota the daughter of Michael and Agnes (Ducioame) White. She was raised in Walhalla, North Dakota and attended school. Priscilla was united in marriage to Louis Stewart on February 17, 1949 in Fargo, North Dakota. Following their marriage the couple lived in several cities in North Dakota prior before moving to Owatonna in 1959. Louis died July 6, 1996.
Priscilla enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She also enjoyed nature, bird watching and going for drives around Lake Okoboji, IA with her family.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Sharon (and Lyle) Krohnberg of Owatonna; Barbara Stewart of Spirit Lake; Carl Stewart of Phoenix; Glen Stewart of Milaca; Larry Stewart of Owatonna; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two sisters, Louella Holziner of Blaine; Beverly White of Fridley; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband Louis Stewart; her parents; a son at infancy, a grandson, three sisters and five brothers.
Visitation will be at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Marvin Wilker
1932–2015
Hopkins—Our wonderful father died April 18 at home in Hopkins, MN. He was born 4/22/1932 on a farm in Meriden Twp., Steele Co., MN. Marvin attended grade school in a one room country school, and was a graduate of Owatonna High School and Dunwoody College of Technology. His degree in Architectural Drafting and Estimating allowed him to work for Raetz Const., and Spitzack Lbr. in Owatonna, MN. He worked as a Supt. for Tillges Lbr. in Lakeville, MN and later at American Lbr. in Mpls., MN as the Dept. Head in the Drafting/Estimating Dept. He also worked for Leibfried Const. in Lakeville and started his own company "Wilker Design & Const., Inc." in Apple Valley, MN for 10 yrs. Marvin moved to Orange Co., CA for 22 yrs. He moved back to MN in 2008. He was married 32 yrs. to Jolene Johnson and they had 4 children: Cyndi (Scott) Magaard, Jacki (Christian) Donovan, Craig (Tammy) Wilker, Tammra (Tom) Echols; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; He is also survived by his sister-in-law Annabelle Wilker; many nieces and nephews. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1960 and was honorably discharged. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Martha Wilker; 3 sisters: Irene Eggers, Rosina Kopischke, Adeline Hinchley; 3 brothers Alfred, Norbert and Harold. Memorial service will be Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 11am at Christiania Lutheran Church, 26691 Pillsbury Ave., Lakeville, MN 55044 with visitation one hour before the service.
