Darrel Dean Rosenow


Saint Peter—Darrel Dean Rosenow, age 85, of St. Peter, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, July 15, 2019 at Union Presbyterian Church, St. Peter, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery, St. Peter. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Darrel was born on December 11, 1933 in Long Prairie, MN, to George and Lydia (Busacker) Rosenow. He graduated from Long Prairie High School in 1952. He attended the University of Minnesota for two years, and then worked for Norris Hatchery and Feed for eight years. Darrel married his high school sweetheart, Mary Norris, in 1953. He then worked in Brainerd for Minnesota Natural Gas Company in sales, was transferred to Gaylord and then to St. Peter. Darrel was the sales manager for Minnegasco, which is now Center Point Energy. He worked 34 years for the gas company and retired in 1996.

Darrel enjoyed golfing, skiing, square dancing, fishing, and especially enjoyed chopping and stacking wood at the cabin, and just relaxing with family and grandchildren. He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, serving as elder; member of Riverbend Promenaders Square Dance Club for 28 years; Rotary Club in Gaylord and St. Peter where he served as president; a board member of Shoreland Country Club, and was a founding member of St. Peter Ambassadors.

Darrel is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary; children, David, Darrel Dean Jr. (Lucy), Charles (Kathy); brother, Marland; sister, Mavis Zellgert; grandchildren, Joshua (Shauna), Andrew (Nicolina), and Nathan (Matt Dittes) Heggem, Fuhua Ding, and Taylor Rosenow; 6 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Elizabeth Heggem, and 4 brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Darrel's memory to Union Presbyterian Church in St. Peter, or to Givens Brain Tumor Center at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis, in loving memory of Darrel and Mary's Daughter, Elizabeth.
