Kathryn "Kathy" A. Ersland

Kenyon—Kathryn "Kathy" Ann Ersland, 83, of Kenyon, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2019 at her home.

Kathy was born March 5, 1936 to Peter and Jessie (Lund) Haugen of rural Honeyford, ND. She grew up on the farm where her family raised many acres of potatoes, and she enjoyed riding Prince the work horse.

Kathy attended school in Grand Forks County and graduated from Grand Forks High School in 1954. Following high school, she attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, attaining a degree in Home Economics in 1958. After graduation, she taught Home Economics for 1 year in Kenyon and then served as the Extension Agent in Wilkin County.

On October 29, 1960, she married Bob Ersland and moved to their farm south of Kenyon. Once the children were old enough, she began driving school bus for Held Bus Services in different capacities for over forty years. In 1974, she began her career with the US Postal system as a substitute mail carrier and became a full-time rural carrier in early 1982. When she retired, she had a total of 25 1/2 years of service.

Retirement afforded Kathy the opportunity to travel with her husband, attend her grandchildren's events and be involved in various community groups. Throughout her life, Kathy's faith played a very important part of her journey. She had a deep love for her family.

She is survived by her husband, Bobbie Ersland of Kenyon; children, Peter (and Kris) Ersland of Littleton, MA, Becky Wendland of Arlington, SD and Tom (and Christine) Ersland of Kenyon, MN; stepdaughters, Linda Prudoehl (and Randy) of Lewiston, MN and LaVae (and Steve) Flemke of Evansville, WI; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one brother, Orvie (and June) Haugen of Gilby, ND.
